MRS. KENNEDY (2021)

November 22nd was the worst day of Mrs. Kennedy’s life. No, no, not that Mrs. Kennedy. Another one altogether. However, the coincidence is hard to ignore. On the Wednesday before Thanksgiving, Mrs. Kennedy learns that her husband of seven years has left her. With nowhere else to turn, she seeks refuge at her local church (it’s something she’s seen on numerous TV shows and in movies). There she befriends an unorthodox priest who helps her through her difficult time. As their friendship blossoms, they discover more information about her husband’s past and where he may be headed. Meanwhile, three young friends, including a young man who was once an altar boy at the church, get mixed up in a caper involving gangsters and terrorists. When the former altar boy seeks help from the priest, the young men’s, the priest’s and Mrs. Kennedy’s worlds collide and they are led on an adventure with twists and turns through an underworld of international spies, supervillains, gangsters, bureaucrats, carwash attendants, Christmas tree salesmen, private investigators, and mountaineers full of danger and intrigue where not everything–or everybody–is what they seem.

CHRISTMAS IN JULY (2018)

It’s the week of Christmas in July and a third rate, South Jersey, barrier island shore resort is preparing for the festivities. A Santa Claus has been hired, celebrities have been invited to participate, a concert has been scheduled and everyone is looking forward to the Parade of Lights on the bay featuring a water skiing St. Nick.

But, when a body is found dead on the beach it casts a pall on the spirit of the occasion. It’s up to two veteran detectives, who have a disdain for paperwork and a knack for finding the best nightly drink specials, and a hardened journalist, fighting her own demons, to get to the bottom of what is causing tourists to wind up dead as the week progresses.

Detective Michael Warden, a cheery, old soul, and his partner Frank Washington, a tortured old salt with a past that is haunting him, have been given four days to solve the killings or at least sweep them under the rug by a corrupt mayor. When two enigmatic, and gorgeous, strangers appear on the island the detectives must figure out if the visitors can help solve the mysterious killings or if they are responsible for who–or what–is causing them.

A comedy novel, Christmas in July is part parody, part satire, and completely a valentine to the Jersey Shore–not the TV show.

“Five Stars – Perfectly captures the sights, the smells and the life at the Jersey shore and then overlays an absurdist tale that involves international terrorists, a tradgedy at a gigantic roller coaster, Hollywood’s whitewashing of true events, Jaws parodies, Mary Sue tropes (literally), old cop buddy films, small town corruption and celebrities in politics as the story bounces back and forth from present day to over a decade ago and even back to 1975. A fun read with interesting characters, humor and actually some heart.” – Simon Pillar, Amazon Review.

“Five Stars – Great Beach Reading! a combination of ‘Naked Gun’ and BBCs ‘Broadchurch’ with a Dan Brown feel. Written with description and detail of the REAL South Jersey shore that only someone who spent a lot of time there could offer.” – Steve Porth, Amazon Review.

“Five Stars – Very funny. Starts out like a standard mystery but then becomes more absurd by the page. Reminded me of like an Onion article played out as a book. Got weirder and weirder. Lots of jokes and an actual mystery where all the pieces get tied together. Liked it a lot.” – Paul Youle’s Goodreads Review

“Four Stars – This reminded me of those old cop shows I watched as a kid. There was a lot going on and give great detail of the Jersey Shore. It was a bit over the top in all the best ways. This the first book I read by this author and it is a hidden gem. There was some kind of silly moments and corrupt government. It is still all settling around me.” – Destiny Bridwell’s Goodreads Review.

“If you like mysteries, the Jersey shore (the place, not the show), and serious belly laughs pretty much on every page, you need to get this book on Amazon today.” – Jamie Mulholland.

“Five Stars

The world needs more books like this! Tired of stuffy, heavy literary crap that’s difficult to read and leaves you depressed? Here’s the antidote. Carl Hiassen’s demented characters meet Douglas Adams’ narrative style. The story is a bit disjointed, but that’s part of the fun. Overall it’s enjoyable and easy to read. Several times I literally laughed out loud.

The writing could use tightening and some minor grammar fixes, but this doesn’t take away from the experience. I hope Boylan writes more. The strangeness and light-hearted pace compelled me to read the book in just a few days. Great stuff! Let’s see some more!”

Larry Nocella
Author of the novel, The Katrina Contract, available on Amazon

“Four Stars – A bizarre and funny book with surreal twists and lots of laughs. It dargged a bit about two thirds through, but the ending was hilarious and unexpected. Definitely a silly read but fun.” – Simon Pillar, Amazon Review.

“Five Stars – Shadow of the Shoe Fixer has a sharply focused central idea. It follows a logical order, so the reader can move through the piece without confusion. The author skillfully employs the language and tone appropriate to the audience and purpose of the book. It is compelling, engaging and humorous. It is face pace and you can read the book quickly.” – Amazon Customer Review

Through his apathy, Nathan unwittingly becomes part of a nefarious plot that destroys the world as we know it, mainly because Nathan bungles his role in said plot. As a result, Nathan must confront his own shortcomings and rise above them to save humanity.

“Five Stars – A funny and engaging book. I really enjoyed this book. It was a fast read, because it was a fun read. The reader is immersed in the story as you would be hearing a tale told by a friend at a campfire. The language is vivid and humorous. From meeting the worst roommate of all time at the start, to the absurd twist at the end, Mr. Boylan reminds you that, no matter how crazy your life seems…it could always be crazier.” – Catherine Vasudevan, Amazon Review

“Four Stars – The author uses precise, effective, and vivid words and phrases throughout the book to paint a clear picture for the reader. The book started off strong, but the twist in the story was unexpected and a little disappointing. That being said, overall it was an enjoyable read and the author skillfully employs the tone appropriate for the audience.” – Amazon Customer Review
